Except for being a genius, he was a womenizer and a bully … but he also had a tender side, which I decided to share today : meet Lump, his Dachshund, his second muse and best friend. Lump, whose name comes from German for rascal ;) and Picasso met in April 1957, when his then owner David Douglas Duncan came to visit Pablo at Cannes. Lump and Pablo looked at each other and it was decided almost at that very moment : Lump wanted to stay :) And so he did, living from then on with Picasso, Picasso’s Boxer Yan and his goat Esmeralda.
Duncan later said This was a love affair. Picasso would take Lump in his arms. He would feed him from his hand. Hell, that little dog just took over. He ran the damn house. He took many photos of them and even wrote a book. Picasso and Lump spent the rest of their lives together : they both died in 1973, one week apart. He lives on on around fifty paintings by Picasso.
